“Ere” in archaic English means “just before”. Ere is also the title of a new publication that explores being almost there, on the verge of something. The word’s mirrored spelling invites self-reflection, while its pronunciation sounds like “air”: the medium we breathe in and out, alluding to how bodies are not separate from the world.
The inaugural issue of Ere takes on the theme of “in-between spaces,” both geographical and symbolic. It seeks to host narratives that navigate the complexities of diasporic experiences among multiple cultures and generations. It calls for diverse and collective perspectives on what is considered peripheral as well as accounts on remote communication and all that feels or can be analyzed as “in-between”.
